Account Management
This section of the help pages is to help you with creating or accessing your account. It includes information on:
- Creating Your Account
- Signing In
- Changing Your Account Settings
- Forgetting Your Password
Creating Your Account
Creating a new account is easy.
There are two ways to get to the new account creation page.
One is to click on the Create Your Own Portfolio button.

The other is to click the "Register" link in the small menu on the upper right. Since this is where the help menu also is, hopefully you have found it already. This is also where you find the link to sign in once you have created an account.
Which ever one you select, it will take you to the same page that contains a screen of information to be filled out in order to establish a user account with PortfolioPlace.net.

For most people this should be a familiar form. It asks for a minimum amount of information in order to confirm your identity and set up the account. All information on this form will be kept confidential. All fields marked with stars are required.
The form requires a name, your city, an e-mail address and a password. Since all of these are pieces if information that you would most probably want to share with potential employers, if you do not want to be sharing them, you probably should reconsider setting up an account with an online portfolio management service such as this one.
Here are some tips to help you along:
E-Mail Addresses
Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address that you check at least periodically. Make sure it is a professional sounding e-mail address, or at least a personal e-mail address that won't present you in a negative light. When you send out resumes through this site, this is the address that will be used. The e-mail address you choose will reflect on how potential employers perceive you.
- A good e-mail address: smithp3245176@hayoo.com
- An even better e-mail address: aslservices@officialsounding.com
- Probably not a very good address: smithpwnsyoo@gamerzoo.com
- Let's not even go there: smutpuppy@oogle.com
Passwords
Please select a password that is reasonably secure but also easy for you to remember.
A quick tip for secure passwords is to pick a few common short words and numbers that go together and that are easy to remember, mash them together, and then change something in it to make them different. For instance, suppose your hubby's birthday is December 6th. You could start with "hubby126" which is already pretty secure against people who don't know your hubby's birthday. But we could make it even more secure with some alterations, for instance, "huBy12VI" (that last bit is the Roman numeral for six, for those who have forgotten) .
The less likely it is for someone to puzzle out the password, the more secure it is. Also, try not to use the same password as you use for everything else. Find one, find them all, is not a good way to hide things.
Submitting the Form
Please take the time to read the [Link: Terms of Service] before checking the acceptance box and submitting the form. We aren't going to require you to read them, but we are both legally bound by them, so at least being familiar with them is a good thing.
Once you submit the form, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you specified. You need to click the link in that e-mail to activate the account.
And Lastly
If you are at this page by mistake and really want to sign in to an existing account, rather than create a new account, there is a sign in menu on the right hand side of the screen. You don't even have to move to another screen to sign in.
Which gets us to our next topic.
Signing In
To sign in, click on the Sign In link in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
On the sign in page, enter your e-mail address (the one you used to set up the account) and your password.
Click the Sign In button.
Changing Your Account Settings
Account settings is the last link on the left hand menu when you are signed in to your account.

Currently there are only two things one can do in the account settings.
One is to change your password, the other is to delete your account.
To change your password, just type your old password in the first box, and then type your new password into both the second and third boxes. Click the Save button. If there are no problems, the system should update your password for you.
When you first open the Account Setting page, all you may see is the password change request form. The option to delete the account is a small link to the right of the form. If you are absolutely sure you want to delete the account, click this link and follow the directions. This will delete the account, your portfolio, and all resumes you have created.
Forgetting Your Password
I know, you are looking at this help section because you are thinking: "Well, it's about time! I've been trying to forget my password for weeks and have no idea of how to go about it."
Okay, maybe not.
If you have forgotten your password, any sign-in menu on the site has a small link at the bottom that says "Forgot your password?"

Click on it and follow the directions. They involve entering the e-mail address you used to set up the account and submitting it.
The system will send you an e-mail to that address with directions on how to reset your password.
If you don't get an e-mail after a period of time, make sure you used the correct e-mail address and try again.
